Public Safety Commissioner Review committee formed
JUNEAU - Gov. Sarah Palin appointed a review committee to help identify highly qualified candidates to serve as commissioner of the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

The committee members will include Dean Guaneli, former chief assistant attorney general for the Alaska Department of Law; John Murphy, a retired U.S. Marshal and former director of the Alaska State Troopers; Northwest Arctic Borough Mayor Martha Whiting; Special Agent Bob Cockrell; Mike Nizich, the governor's acting chief of staff; and Randy Ruaro, the governor's special assistant on public safety.

"I have directed this committee to seek out qualified candidates both within the Department of Public Safety and across the state. We are looking for an individual who shares our vision of meeting new goals, including filling the dozens of vacant trooper positions and combating drug and alcohol abuse, especially in rural Alaska."

The new commissioner will be responsible for leading a department of more than 850 employees organized in five divisions.
