The mobile mammography van will visit Hoonah, Haines, Skagway, Klawock, Craig and Metlakatla this summer and fall.
The van is scheduled to visit Hoonah on Aug. 18-22, Haines on Aug. 28 to Sept. 10, Skagway on Sept. 16-18, Klawock on Sept. 26 to Oct. 9, Craig on Oct. 10 and 13 (no weekend appointments) and Metlakatla on Oct. 17-23.
The mobile mammography program is run through a partnership between Bartlett Regional Hospital and the SEARHC Breast and Cervical Health Program. It makes regular mammography services available to women who live in communities where they aren't available year round.
"Each year, the mobile mammography unit provides mammograms for more than 550 women who might not otherwise receive this service," SEARHC Breast and Cervical Health Program Coordinator Roz DeRensis said. "Regular mammograms are an important part of being a healthy woman."
The SEARHC Breast and Cervical Health Program provides free clinical breast exams and mammograms for all women ages 40-64 who meet income and insurance guidelines.
