PETERSBURG - During the Little Norway Festival in May, Ed Rasmuson announced a challenge to the Petersburg community: build the Petersburg Community Foundation Fund up to $50,000 by July 4 and the Rasmuson Foundation will match it dollar-for-dollar.
The community has met the challenge, bringing Petersburg's endowment to just over $265,000, according to Cynthia Wallesz, chair of the Petersburg Community Foundation.
The Petersburg Community Foundation, founded in 2008, works to be a catalyst for change in the community and surrounding area. The endowment is managed along with several other community foundations by the Alaska Community Foundation, which serves as the fiscal home for the fund.
"I am also pleased to announce that during this challenge match process, the Petersburg Community Foundation assisted two local nonprofits in setting up funds for their organizations. The new funds are the WAVE Endowment and Petersburg Mental Health Services Fun," Wallesz said.
The Foundation is planning its next grant cycle this fall.
