Ketchikan General Hospital seeks volunteers

KETCHIKAN - Ketchikan General Hospital is looking for a few good volunteers.

With a long history of serving, volunteers at KGH are a remarkable group of people. They help with the "No One Dies Alone" program, Auxiliary Gift Shop, Hospice, Pastoral Care, and New Horizons Long Term Care Unit.

"One of the most visible volunteer roles is working at the Gift Shop run by the Auxiliary," said volunteer Carolyn Wilse. "We raise money for special hospital purchases. Last year we donated more than $52,000 from Gift Shop sales that purchased wheelchairs, a new birthing bed, and items for Med/Surg, New Horizons, Speech Therapy, and more."

"Some hospital volunteers give a few hours a week, some much more. But, every hour helps," said KGH volunteer coordinator Marty West. "When you realize how busy some of our volunteers' lives are, it's amazing they find time in their schedules to help at all. Each volunteer role is important because it touches the lives of those we serve. We get very close to people, that's why a fingerprint check is a part of our application process."

Those interested in becoming a volunteer at KGH should call Marty West at 254-5144.
