Several years ago, SEARHC received a memo from the Alaska Department of Labor containing instruction about the method used for paying nursing overtime. Recent contact with the U.S. Department of Labor led SEARHC to reevaluate its implementation of this information from the state.
At this time, Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital nursing staff who work regular 12-hour shifts are the only SEARHC employees affected by this issue, and some may be due back wages. SEARHC is seeking to work with the U.S. Department of Labor to further refine the issue of back wages. SEARHC overtime pay from present going forward will use the new overtime calculation for nursing staff working regular 12-hour shifts.
