Alaska Pacific Bank appoints new director
Alaska Pacific Bancshares welcomed Maxwell "Max" S. Rule, a prominent Sitka businessman, to their Board of Directors on May 20, at their Annual Shareholders Meeting. Mr. Rule filled the board position vacated by Rob Allen, Jr.

Max Rule currently serves as the chief financial officer for a group of related companies in Sitka, Alaska that include Hames Corporation, Triple C Ventures, Inc. and Clearwater Bay Corporation. These business entities operate Sea Mart Quality Foods, Market Center, Cascade Convenience Stores and Newtown Liquor stores in Southeast Alaska.

  Max Rule
A long time Alaska businessman, Max moved to Ketchikan from Montana in 1985 to take an accounting position with a local accounting firm. He also worked for the City of Ketchikan as their accounting manager. In 2000, with his wife, Max founded Carol Sue & Company that operates Silver Basin, an upscale kitchen and bath boutique in Ketchikan and Matty's World, a store named after their first son to fill a need for unique and quality toys. Since then, Max and his wife have opened a second Silver Basin boutique in Sitka, AK.

Max joined Hames Corporation in 1993 as their controller. In 2004, Max and his family permanently moved to Sitka from Ketchikan and he was promoted to chief financial officer in 2007. His position has evolved from not only responsibility for all financial affairs of the company, but to an active member of the company's management team. In addition to his financial responsibilities, Mr. Rule participates in strategic planning, business acquisitions, information systems, human resources and benefits administration.

"I am very excited to serve on a board of a company like Alaska Pacific that is dedicated to local service and community involvement," stated Rule. He also commented, "I can be an asset to the company as I have seen the ups and downs of the local economies and have a great understanding of the challenges small, medium and large business face."

"Max brings a lot of diversity to the Board of Directors, including experience in government and local business management," commented Alaska Pacific Bank president and CEO Craig E. Dahl. He also added, "His financial background and local business experience will help us to reach out and serve our communities better."

Rule holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Montana, is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Washington Society of Public Accountants. Max is very involved in local community organizations and currently serves as a board member of Sitka Trail Works. He has been active on other non-profit boards and chambers of commerce throughout Southeast Alaska over his career.
