State Council on the Arts awards culture grants for 2005-2006
The Alaska State Council on the Arts recently announced annual grant awards totaling over $400,000 for arts and culture organizations in Alaska. These public dollars will support activities around the state in 2005-2006, ranging from artists in schools residencies to traditional Alaska Native art projects. In all, 48 organizations and 27 schools were recipients of grant awards.

The annual operating support and project awards to Southeast Alaska were, by community:

Juneau: CrossSound, Inc., $4,843; Opera to Go, $3,357; Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, $11,557; Juneau Symphony, $5,084; Juneau Jazz and Classics, $8,480; Perseverance Theater Company, $19,556.

Ketchikan: Totem Heritage Center, $8,549; First City Players, $5,027; Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council, $12,976.

Sitka: Sitka Jazz Festival, $4,000; Alaska Arts Southeast, $5,846; Island Institute, $4,827; Sitka Summer Music Festival, $9,800.
