SEARHC's Sara Lang honored by Public Health Service
JUNEAU - The U.S. Public Health Service recently honored LCDR Sara Lang, RN, BSN, the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Nursing Administrator at the Ethel Lund Medical Center in Juneau.

Lang, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, received the Minnegerode Hanzel Award from the Nurse Professional Advisory Committee of the U.S. Public Health Service. According to the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), "the recipient of the Minnegerode Hanzel Award ... demonstrates resourcefulness and dedication in helping to accomplish the mission of the USPHS as well as professional and technical skills and competence in raising the quality of nursing."

"LCDR Sara Lang is an excellent example of an innovative professional nurse leader," said Brenda Sturm, SEARHC Ethel Lund Medical Center Administrator. "She is creative in looking at new ideas and has the unique ability to engage others in a visionary application of moving patient improvement processes ahead at SEARHC."

LCDR Lang was commended for her work designing a case management model, manual and training program at SEARHC, according to a letter co-signed by Assistant Surgeon General Carol Romano and by CDR Katherine Berkhousen, the USPHS Nursing Professional Advisory Committee Chair.

"The success of your service will serve as an example of quality nursing for others to aspire to in their future efforts," they wrote.
