JVMB to carry historic flag in July 4th parade

To help lead off a year of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of statehood for Alaska, the Juneau Volunteer Marching Band will carry historic flag in Juneau's Independence Day parades.

The exact age of the 'Juneau City Band' banner is not known but the material and condition suggest it is at least 50 years old. One person, Russell Strandtmann, plays a classic instrument made during the 1900's. You can hear the Juneau Volunteer Marching Band in concert at the Marine Park bandstand on July 2.

Individuals with additional information, photos, uniform parts, music, memorabilia, etc. from the Juneau City Band should contact the Juneau Volunteer Marching Band at jvmb01@hotmail.com or call Larry Stevens, 586-3689.
