Territorial Sportsmen foundation awards four Juneau students with scholarships
The Territorial Sportsmen Scholarship Foundation, Inc. announces the awards of four $12,000 undergraduate scholarships to graduating seniors from Juneau-Douglas High School and the home school program in May, 2008.

Recipients were Lindsay Birk, Richard Hoffman, Sam Messerschmidt, and Nicholas Ramseth.

A Vocational/Technical scholarship was awarded to Colton Baker in the amount of $ 1,500.

Funding of the scholarship program comes primarily two sources: the net sales of salmon donated through Territorial Sportsmen's annual Golden North Salmon Derby and the return on investments in the Foundation endowment fund.

The scholarship program began in 1953 with a scholarship awarded to Johnny Harris, a grandson of one of the founders of Juneau, Richard Harris.

Since then, 254 scholarships and fellowships totaling $1,372,100 have been awarded, including: 231 to JDHS graduating seniors; 19 to vocational and technical school students; and four fellowships.
