KETCHIKAN - Ketchikan General Hospital announced its list of scholarship awards for 2010 at the end of May. The awards and awardees included the following:
Certified Nursing Assistant Scholarship: Five awards, each in the amount of $2,200, presented to Kali Bowers, Bebekah Bowers, Caitlyn Lewis, Kelly Stewart and Haley Widness.
Elaine Caskey Memorial Scholarship: One award in the amount of $500, presented to Megan Johnson
High School Seniors Pursuing a Healthcare Career: Two awards, each in the amount of $1,500, presented to Rebekah Bowers and Lynn Montecillo.
Children of KGH Employees: Three awards, each in the amount of $1,000, presented to Kyle Foote, Jeremy Wills, and Sara Yonker
Joseph Shields Memorial Scholarship: One award in the amount of $1,000, presented to Carol Schafer
Elaine Caskey was a Registered Nurse at Ketchikan General Hospital. KGH employees and the Employee Council funded the scholarship in her memory. Dr. Shields was a long-time Ketchikan physician who had the first orthopedic surgery practice in the region. After Dr. Shield's death, his father made a donation to establish a scholarship in his name.
