Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (Central Council) has hired Theresa Belton as chief financial officer and Michael Halverson as controller.
As CFO, Belton will provide oversight of the Tribe's finance personnel, fiscal management, general fund budget and financial reporting. She will review and negotiate the Tribe's indirect cost proposal and oversee budgeting and accounting procedures.
Belton earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Accounting degree from the University of Alaska Southeast and has over eight years of experience working for Central Council's finance department.
Halverson's acceptance of the controller position is a promotion from his previous position as grants administrator with the finance department. As controller, Halverson will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions; working closely with department and program managers to ensure financial reports are accurate and timely; and assisting the CFO.
Halverson attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., and is retired from service with the State of Alaska and the University of Alaska. Prior to retiring, he served as manager of the Supplemental Benefits System and Active Employees Health Plan, internal auditor for the Public Employees and Teachers Retirement Systems, grant accountant for the Department of Education, and other related positions.
