JUNEAU - Wells Fargo has
honored Kathy Vilandre with a memorial gift to United Way of Southeast Alaska. Kathy Vilandre served on the United Way board of directors from 2004 through 2008 when she succumbed to cancer.
"She was a dedicated leader," said Larry Harris, United Way Board Chair. "She served as our secretary for several years and believed in the United Way mission and this community 100 percent. These funds will allow Kathy's dream of building a strong community come true."
Vilandre served as the United Way campaign chair in 2003 and continued to lead the Wells Fargo corporate campaign in Southeast every year after that.
"You could really credit the strong participation by NBA and later Wells Fargo to Kathy's dedication," said fellow board member Gail Wood, who served with Kathy during her entire tenure on the board.
Vilandre requested upon her death to have donations be made to United Way, so her fellow workers compassionately complied with her wishes and Wells Fargo matched those contributions to total a $2,500 check to United Way. Harris said he will suggest that some scholarships to Leadership Juneau be made in her name or another befitting recognition.
