Bartlett receives ACR accreditation
JUNEAU - Bartlett Regional Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Mammography and Mobil Mammography services as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

In 2007 Bartlett's Mammography Department performed 3,703 mammograms, of which nearly 700 were performed in our mobile mammography unit.

Since 1992 our mobile mammography unit has been providing screening mammograms to women in the communities of Angoon, Craig, Haines, Hoonah, Kake, Klawock, Metlakatla, Skagway and Yakutat. The mobile mammography program starts each year in April and runs through September.

Bartlett Regional Hospital's mammography program provides screening, diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasound and breast MRI. Patients will find services such as Stereotactic Breast Biopsy and Ultrasound Biopsies.

Bartlett is staffed with certified Mammographers, Breast Ultrasound technologists and certified MRI technologists.

Bartlett will soon be providing Juneau and our mobile customers with Digital Mammography services.
