JUNEAU - Students from Ms. Savikko's second grade class at Gastineau Elementary School performed the world premiere of "X'ATAK.AAN: The Land Behind The Little Island" last Friday at Perseverance Theatre. The original play about the history of Douglas Island was written by Merry Ellefson and directed by Anni Stokes. Performers included Airalynn Crenshaw, Arne Ellefson-Carnes, Ashley Williams, Brenden Hurt, Cassandra Pearce, Catherine Marks, Cathy Ackerman, Edgar Higgins, Emily Pannell, Finn Adam, Gretchen Neal, Jason Morrow, Jenevah Swanson, Malia Miller, Owen Squires, Sean Voss, Trey Mitchell McDonald III, Will Maclay, Wayne Carnes and Paula Savikko. Ellefson wrote the play as she observed the class learning about the history of Douglas. Many of the lines came from the students themselves.
