Aaron Suring of Juneau was one of nearly 300 competitors at the World Beard and Moustache Championships, which were held May 20-24 in Anchorage. Facial hair bearers from around the globe competed in various freestyle and natural categories including Wild West, Fu Manchu, and Garibaldi. Suring took second place in the Alaskan Whaler category. He accompanied his beard with full whaling regalia, including a harpoon that he acquired from a Perseverance Theatre prop sale. Suring said he has been growing his beard since September.
