First Bank awards $13,000 to POW groups

KETCHIKAN - First Bank awarded four organizations a total of $13,000 at the Prince of Wales Community Spotlight Event on May 15.

Hydaburg Cooperative Association received a $4,000 grant to purchase supplies to make native ceremonial robes. The local youth will make the ceremonial robes during their annual summer culture camp.

Abby Ruckman, Board member of the Craig Child Care Center, was presented with a check for $3,000 for the non-profit daycare that serves Craig and the surrounding communities. Portions of the grant will go towards the training of employees in early childcare development.

The Organized Village of Kasaan also received a $3,000 Community Investment Grant for their Culture Camp. The summer camp teaches native drum making, wall hangings, blanket making, song and dance, and cedar basket weaving art.

In addition to the Community Reinvestment Grants, First Bank awarded the Craig International Marathon a check for $3,000. The check was presented to Victoria Merritt, Race Director for the Marathon. The funds were to help with the annual marathon race, which took place on May 29.
