Bagged salad recall expands

JUNEAU - Pacific Coast Fruit Company announced a recall of several types of bagged, processed salads because they contained a portion of the salads recently recalled by River Ranch Fresh Foods, LLC that may contain Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Alaska DEC has confirmed distribution of the products to food services in Alaska. To date, there have been no reported illnesses in Alaska or other states.

Food services that may have received these products are urged to return them to the distributor or destroy the product, or may call Pacific Coast Fruit at 503-234-6411.
