The 2nd Annual Sitka "state" Fair is coming Aug. 11 to Harrigan Centennial Hall. This is an early alert for those who may wish to enter an item in the Sitka Fair competition.
Judged categories will include: cupcakes, savory pies, sweet pies, savory bread, sweet bread, artisanal bread, canned fruit, canned veggies, jams, jellies, fruit & veggie art, photo contest, hobbies (wood working, collections, crafts, string things), live chickens, bunnies, flower arrangements, muffins, scones, homegrown vegetables, spam hors d' oeuvres, canned fish, smoked fish, and pickled entries.
There are three age ranges for each category: 1 to 10, 11 to 17, and 18 and up.
First, Second and Third place ribbons as well as "Participant" ribbons will be awarded.
The cost is $3 per entry for each category, limit of three per category and nine entries in total. Entrants are encouraged to have a nice presentation for their display. The fair expects to have a variety of Sitka "state" Fair Midway food and music and entertainment on the center stage. The schedule is: 7-8 a.m. set up, 8-9 a.m. drop off entries, 9 a.m. to noon judging. Noon to 5 p.m. open to the public.
