I would like to thank the people of Juneau-Douglas, the United States Postal Service employees, the Girl Scouts, and the many volunteers who participated in this year's highly successful Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. I would also like to thank the local television stations, radio stations and newspapers for their help with advertising the event. Hats off to the city and rural letter carriers who stopped at businesses and residences to collect bags and heavy boxes of food. The National Association of Letter Carriers, Campbell Soup Company and America's Second Harvest have been working together for 15 years to sponsor this nation's largest one-day food drive. The Juneau-Douglas community has once again demonstrated their great generosity by donating 5,636 pounds of food to the Southeast Alaska Food Bank. The food that was donated will go a long way to feed the hungry over the summer months in our own community. Thanks again to everyone for their efforts. Have a great summer!
