Unspoiled & Unhurried
Experience Haines, Alaska
Nowhere else does the Alaska of your dreams come alive like it does in Haines! Here you will find a perfectly distilled sampling of Alaska's history, scenic beauty, arts and culture, wildlife, and lifestyle. A smorgasbord, if you please, of activities for visitors of various persuasions.

Let's see what's on the menu and begin to get a taste of Haines.

As we approach the buffet of activities, the first appetizer we feast upon is the 16th annual Great Alaska Craft Beer and Home Brew Festival, a gathering spot for anyone who enjoys good beer and great people. Come for a taste of this multiple-day affair on Memorial Day weekend, May 23 and 24.

The Haines beer festival starts with home-brew judging on Friday, followed by a gourmet beer dinner that evening and a beer festival at the Southeast Alaska fairgrounds on Saturday. The festival hosts a variety of beer distributors and breweries from around the state. In the midst of the festivities is the Haines Brewing Company.

Moving on from the appetizers, let's view the entrees. Experience our rich diversity in local museums, galleries, and shops. The Sheldon Museum & Cultural Center exhibits a collection of native craft work, pioneer artifacts and gold rush mementos. If you're seeking something quirky, check out the Hammer Museum - an entire collection of more than 1200 hammers. Interested in learning about the natural history of the Chilkat Valley? Stop by the American Bald Eagle Foundation and view over 160 animals on display.

Do you have an artistic taste? In Haines you'll find unique items such as paintings, stained glass, soapstone carvings, and more. With approximately twenty galleries and gift shops, there's a good chance you'll see an artisan at work, perhaps creating a treasure you will want to take home.

An outdoor taste? Haines is a mecca for anyone who loves hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking, skiing, wildlife viewing, or bird watching. Whether on the water, hiking or touring, keep your eyes open for whales, seals, porpoises, eagles, and shore birds as well as bears, moose and mountain goats.

Let's finish up by viewing a few more tidbits of Haines as a full-service community. We have grocery stores, sports gear stores, hardware stores, car wash, automotive repair shops, laundromats, post office, public library, indoor swimming pool, cuisine restaurants, accommodations, and a bank. It's all here for you to discover.

Whatever your tastes are, chances are that you will find it in Haines. Come and see for yourself. Most people feel it was worth getting a taste of Haines.
