Juneau National Guard soldiers awarded Combat Infantry Badge
On May 8, 2005, twenty-seven men with the Alaska Army National Guard, who are currently serving in Iraq received the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) during a small ceremony.

All of the soldiers are assigned to Company A, 3rd Battalion, 297th Infantry which is headquartered in Juneau. The CIB was awarded to the soldiers for actions on April 10, 2005, for maneuvering on a suspected Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) and upon arriving at the site of the UXO the unit came under fire from small arms and a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG).

There are approximately six more soldiers who were submitted for the CIB due to other various actions. At this time only the soldiers who were engaged by hostile fire were awarded the CIB.
