North Woods Writers Symposium, Skagway, June 2-5. North Words Symposium offers a unique opportunity for writers to nurture interrelationships with other writers and thinkers in a spectacular place. Sitka Summer Music Festival, June 4-27. The annual Sitka Summer Music Festival will showcase classical chamber music of internationally acclaimed musicians. Festival performances include evening concerts at Harrigan Hall renowned for its breathtaking views of Sitka Sound. Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay, June 19. This race starts in Haines Junction, Canada at 8:30 a.m. (Yukon Time). Riders with their escort vehicles will start arriving at the Alaska-Canada Border around noon (ADT). Southeast Alaska State Fair, Haines, July 29-August 1. The Southeast Alaska State Fair provides a showcase for agricultural and domestic arts, creative arts and crafts, and the opportunity for educational, cross-cultural and social exchange. The Fair strives to ensure active community participation and support guaranteeing perpetuation and growth by planning, budgeting, promoting and operating events which enhance the economic cultural and creative well-being of the community of Haines and the region, and encouraging year round use of the fair facilities and as a tourist facility. Klondike International Road Relay, September 10-11. This race starts Friday afternoon and continues all night along the road. This 110 mile relay race that begins in Skagway ends in Whitehorse, Yukon, Saturday afternoon. Teams of 10 members from all over the world compete in this event.
