New Juneau landscape architecture firm opens

JUNEAU - Corvus Design announces the opening of a new office in Juneau by landscape architect Christopher Mertl, ASLA. Mertl has 18 years of experience in Alaska and expands the firm's strengths for coastal design and knowledge specific to Southeast Alaska.

The company's mission is to craft meaningful people-based places, facilitate connections to our landscapes that respect biological processes, and develop opportunities for enjoyment and comfort.

"We're very excited at the prospect of strengthening the services we offer within the Southeast Alaska and Coastal Alaska market. Chris reinforces many of the skills we currently have, but also expands our services into new areas," says Peter Briggs, Corvus Design President. "We see this as a way to offer additional benefit to our existing clientele, and to also expand our presence through being the only landscape architectural practice with an office in Southeast Alaska."

The new Juneau office will offer full service landscape architecture and planning services. Mertl specializes in coastal and waterfront community design and planning, streetscape and transportation design, historic landscapes, and recreation and park design. Prior to joining Corvus Design, Mertl was employed as a landscape architect with Jensen Yorba Lott, Inc., and also the USDA Forest Service in Sitka. Some of Mertl's notable past Juneau projects include Gunakadeit Pocket Park, Marine Park/Steamship Wharf Redesign, the new Juneau Transportation Center, the Statter Harbor Master Plan, Seward Street Improvements, and the Governor's House Garden. Mertl's experience in Southeast includes the Downtown Wrangell Revitalization Plan, the Sitka Non-Motorized Transportation Plan, Ketchikan's Berth 3 Improvements, and the Haines Highway Scenic Byway Corridor Plan.

The new Juneau office of Corvus Design is located at 119 Seward Street and can be reached at 988-9000.
