Honoring USFS employees

About 100 Forest Service family and friends paused May 3 at Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, along with their counterparts nationwide, to observe a national moment of silence in honor of fallen Forest Service employees. The occasion included the unveiling of a Centennial National Geodetic Survey monument and presentation of awards to Forest Service employees and partners.

Honor Day concluded with a moment of silence to honor Forest Service employees who have given their lives in the line of duty. The moment of silenced was marked by the Coast Guard chaplain and color guard, and a bagpipe rendition of "Amazing Grace." The moment ended with a "Taps" duet performed by Juneau-Douglas High School Band students.
