At a recent potluck gathering in Juneau, the staff and board of the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council honored Rosa Miller by granting her the Dixie Baade Award and an accompanying gift, a painting of "Spirit Mountain" (Lions Head) by Juneau artist Arnie Weimer.

Dixie Baade of Ketchikan, who died in 1991, was SEACC's "Founding Mother" and once said, "Let us not forget the past, but let us fight for the future." Miller has "fought for the future" through her devotion, determination and leadership over the years to protect the waters, wildlife, traditional foods and medicines, and cultural and spiritual values of the Auk Kwaan's ancestral lands in Berners Bay.
