Rice shortage scare hits Alaskan stores
Grocery store shelves where supplies of rice were once on display are now bare around Alaska following reports of a global rice shortage. A number of Juneau stores said they sold out of rice within the first few hours of business, reported the Juneau Empire.

Many stores are limiting the number of bags of rice allowed to be purchased by individual customers and some stores have reported sold as much as 90 bags of rice per hour.

The shortage has caused panic, and even rioting, in Asian countries where the cost for rice has increased by 60 percent. The rice shortage has also caused for the price of wheat and corn to increase in recent weeks world-wide.
