Mountain bike trail workshops offered

JUNEAU - Trail Mix and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) will kick off a weekend of mountain bike trail workshops with a celebration at the Hangar Ballroom on Friday, May 8 from 6 -8 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Alaskan Brewing Co., and a suggested $15 donation includes locally brewed ales and light snacks.

Two experts from the IMBA/Subaru Trail Care Crew will be available at the event to talk about the potential for future mountain bike trails in Juneau, and Balance Climbing & Yoga will preview several new films from Roam and The Collective.

On Saturday and Sunday, Trail Mix and IMBA will host a trail building workshop to teach sustainable trail design and construction techniques. After a brief classroom session, participants will help reroute a short section of the Sheep Creek Trail to reduce erosion and improve access.

The workshop is free and begins Saturday, May 9 at 9 a.m. in the Douglas Public Library meeting room. To register, visit go.imba.com/Juneau. For more information, call 790-6406.
