Friends of the Flags seeking annual donations

Spring means a lot of different things to a lot of different people who live here in Juneau. To the members of Friends of the Flags, it means that we soon will be running up the flags along Egan Drive.

For those who are new to the Capital City and do not know about our flag project, I'm happy to inform you of this annual community effort.

Every spring for the past 29 years, FOTF members have installed all 50 state flags atop the light standards, downtown from Marine Park to 10th Street, terminating at the Douglas Bridge. FOTF is an Advisory Committee of the City & Borough of Juneau.

However, this project is not funded by the CBJ.

It is citizens and various businesses that provide the funding and the services needed to accomplish this project for our Capital City.

While we purchase the best quality flags available, years of experience have taught us that we need to buy new flags each year. Severe winds and rain along the waterfront take a toll. Even flagstaffs can get bent, needing to be replaced or repaired.

Every year around this time, we have a fund-raiser to keep this project viable. If you would like to contribute to Friends of the Flags, donations can be sent to:

FRIENDS OF THE FLAGS,

P.O. BOX 32201

Juneau, AK 99803
