JUNEAU - Rain or shine, wind or calm, every Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. May 11 until the end of August, Juneau Youth Sailing will host adult racing using their Vanguard 420 dinghy sailboat fleet at the Juneau Yacht Club.
Each month is a different racing series and the cost is $25 per person, per series. The funds go directly to support JYS and the maintenance of the boats and drysuits. You can find more information about JYS, register and pay online for Friday night adult sailboat racing online at www.juneauyouthsailing.org/races.html.
Participants must be experienced sailors or be accompanied by one. If you are new to sailing and would like instruction, there JYS offers adult sailing classes.
Boats and drysuits will be provided. First-timers must complete a capsize drill. Interested sailors should show up at JYS's container near the Yacht Club ready to sail and get wet. Bring your own USCG-approved life jacket (no inflatables, please), warm layers, shoes that can get wet and a change of clothes and footwear. Gloves and a hat are nice, too.
For more information, see the JYS website for FAQs and contact information.
