SITKA - The SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women's Health Program and the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska (BCDC) are happy to announce the schedule for the spring mobile mammogram clinics in Haines and Angoon.
The mobile mammography truck will visit Haines on May 21-25 and Angoon on May 28-30. All women requesting a screening mammogram will be offered the service, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. Women are encouraged to contact their local clinics before the scheduled visit because they must have a recent clinical breast exam on file before they can get their mammograms.
The mobile mammography clinics are provided through a new partnership between the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska and SEARHC. "SEARHC is very pleased to be working together with the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska to offer screening mammography services to women who live in communities where they aren't available year round," said Litia Garrison, SEARHC Women's Health Program Manager. BCDC of Alaska was established in 1976 in Fairbanks. It is their mission to increase awareness of the survivability of breast cancer and the benefits of early detection by delivering screening services and educational programs throughout the State of Alaska.
The SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women's Health Program provides free clinical breast exams, mammograms, Pap tests, cardiovascular screenings and healthy lifestyle support for all women ages 40 and older who meet income and insurance guidelines. "Comprehensive health screenings, including regular mammograms, are an important part of being a healthy woman," notes Garrison.
