Students from Ms. Garcia and Ms. Jones' fifth grade classes at Auke Bay school performed "The Tree of Peace: The origin of democracy in America." The original musical was written by librarian and music teacher Anne Boochever and her husband Scott Miller. About 50 students performed in "The Tree of Peace," which takes place in 1754. It takes place when the colonies are still independent of each other and under the rule of King George of England and includes events that lead up to the French and Indian war.
"I hope the kids will get a better understanding of colonial America from this,"Boochever said. "It was the first time the idea of uniting the states was suggested." To view more photos visit our online SPOTTED gallery at www.capitalcityweekly.com.
