SITKA - Sitka women are invited to "build your own event" in the Sitka Women's Walk and Triathlon, sponsored by the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Women's Health program and Sitka Physical Therapy.
The non-competitive event starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Blatchley Middle School. The three legs of the triathlon include a 2.5-mile walk or run, a 4-mile bike and a 500-meter swim at the Blatchley Pool.
Women of all ages can participate in all three triathlon legs, or they can do just one or two of the legs. This event is open to individuals and teams. There is no entry fee and the event will not be timed. Dogs on leash are welcome and family teams are encouraged. Male participants younger than 13 years old may participate on a family team.
Register from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 24, at the Blatchley Middle School Foyer. The Yellow Jersey Cycle Shop will perform free bicycle safety checks for women who bring their bikes to the shop before the event. Door prizes will be distributed after the event is over. Women will be allowed to use fins, flotation belts and kickboards during the swim leg.
