Youth serving the community

National Youth Service Day was celebrated in Juneau Friday by 18 groups, totalling almost 350 students, led by 30 AmeriCorps volunteers, serving the community in a variety of ways, from raking leaves at the cemetery to serving lunch at the Glory Hole to cleaning up trash from public beaches and green areas. National Youth Service Day has been celebrated for ten years and is organized by SAGA, the Southeast Alaska Guidance Association. The groups gathered outside Dimond Courthouse for instructions in the morning, and ended the day with hot dogs in Marine Park.
