SIGNS OF AUTISM
Autistic children typically experience significant developmental delay in the following three areas:

Language

• Doesn't babble, point or make meaningful gestures by age 1

• Doesn't speak one word by 16 months

• Doesn't combine two words by age 2

• Doesn't respond to name

• Echoes words or phrases

• Difficulty in expressing needs

Social interactions

• May avoid eye contact

• May prefer to be alone

• Difficulty interacting with others

• Inappropriate laughing or giggling

• May not want cuddling

• Doesn't smile

Repetitive behaviors

• Excessively lines up toys or objects

• Attached to one particular toy or object

• Spins objects or self
