United Way offers Community Impact grants

United Way of Southeast Alaska has adopted a "Literacy by Third Grade" initiative to help ensure children are reading at grade level by the time they complete third grade. United Way is now accepting Community Impact Grant applications designed to assist community needs as they relate to early literacy. Funds will be awarded to successful grant applicants pursuing efforts designed to eliminate barriers or supporting Literacy by Third Grade. Depending on the applications received, United Way of Southeast Alaska may elect to award one or more application(s) developing or enhancing Literacy by Third Grade.

Alternatively, United Way of Southeast Alaska offers a separate Matching Grant for programs/projects not specifically addressing the issue of early literacy. Such applications should be based on a documented need in the community. This matching grant will generally not exceed $1,500 for any individual award.

Grant applications are available www.unitedwayseak.org. Applicants may collaborate with United Way partner agencies or other non-profit entities.

The application deadline is April 30 at 4 p.m. Applications may be submitted electronically or mailed to: United Way of Southeast Alaska Community Impact Committee, Katherine Eldemar, Chair, PO Box 20249, or 3225 Hospital Drive #201, Juneau, AK 99802. For more information, call 463-5530.
