NOAA to hold public hearings on observer program

JUNEAU - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration invites interested members of the public to a hearing on the proposal to restructure the funding and deployment system for observers in North Pacific groundfish and halibut fisheries. The goal is to implement the restructured program by January 2013.

People wishing to make an oral statement for the record at a public hearing are encouraged to also provide a written copy of their statement. Oral and written statements receive equal consideration. There are no limits on the length of written comments submitted.

The hearing will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on May 2 in the Hickel Room of Centennial Hall.

Information on the proposed changes to the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area and to the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Gulf of Alaska can be found at: www.alaskafisheries.noaa.gov.
