Governor's Prayer Lunch to be held Sunday
Church groups and leaders from across Juneau are coming together to hold the Governor's Prayer Lunch at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Centennial Hall. The event is open to the general public.

"The purpose of the Governor's Prayer Lunch is to gather in unity to honor, support and prayer for Gov. Sarah Palin," said event committee member Mike Rose, pastor of Juneau Christian Center.

The two hour event will include singing performances and speaker H.B. London of Focus on the Family, said committee member Sherry Patterson. Palin and Lt. Governor Sean Parnell will be at the event.

"The word of the Lord teaches us to pray for our leaders and we're honored to be able to come together and honor our Governor in this way. It's an absolute honor to participate in putting together such an awesome event," Patterson said.

While prayer events for government leaders are common, Rose said only a couple have been held in Juneau in the past 10 years.

Patterson said the committee has been working since February to prepare for the event.

"It takes a foundation of prayer, vision and a great committee to get it done, and we have all of that," Patterson said.

Tickets to the event are $25 and can be purchased at both Heathside Books locations, Church of the Nazarene and Juneau Christian Center. For information, call 957-0630.
