Local Red Cross thanks community, prepares for next fundraiser event
The American Red Cross of Alaska, Southeast District would like to take this opportunity to thank all those within our community who helped to assist the families of the Gastineau fire on April 4th as well as our volunteers who put their busy lives on hold to provide relief for others in their most desperate time of need.

It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, but it also takes a community to raise up a family that has lost everything. I believe that our community emulates that thought and act of support, kindness and friendship.

A special thank you to our friends at Search Behavioral Health who supported families in the critical moments and hours after the fire by offering a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen. To Love INC. who have coordinated and prioritized items for the families in the way of house hold goods and furniture to help establish a new home.

Thank you to McDonalds for your continued help in the way of Arch cards and to all the community members who have made donations in support of those affected by disaster.

The Red Cross remains committed to meeting the immediate needs of those affected by disaster. This is a gift from the Red Cross made possible by the generous donations of Alaskan people.

On May 10th, you can support the Red Cross here at home and have a fun filled evening with friends and family by joining us on our Wine and Whales Cruise.

We will be boarding an Allen Marine vessel, of which they have generously donated for our event, at 5 p.m. with on time departure of 5:30 p.m. from the Don Statter Harbor in Auke Bay. Alaska Distributors will be providing wines from around the world as well as spotlighting a Sonoma California wine maker Rodney Strong.

Appetizers will be provided by both Zen and the Prospector and of course the scenery of southeast Alaska will relax and entertain after the hustle and bustle of a busy day.

Tickets are available through the Red Cross at 3200 Hospital DR # 203 or by calling 463-5713. Tickets are $ 50 for one or $ 90 for two and we have a limited amount of tickets available so be sure to pick yours up today.

You may also purchase a raffle ticket, or two, for a pair of round trip tickets to Hawaii provided by Cyndi's Cruise and Travel.
