ANGOON - The mobile mammogram van will visit Angoon starting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, with appointments available through 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. This year the van has been updated with digital imaging on board, instead of film.
Women wanting to schedule a mammogram should call the Jessie Norma Jim Medical Center in Angoon at 788-4600. Women who aren't due for a screening in the next couple of months also should call, because it's possible the mobile mammogram van might be able to fit you in.
All women will need to arrange to have a current clinical breast exam (done within the past six months) and heart health check before they schedule their mammogram. If you have not had a current breast exam since November, you will need to arrange to have one before you schedule your mammogram. If you also are due for your women's health exam, please let the Jessie Norma Jim Medical Center know so sufficient time is scheduled for you to have this done.
The SEARHC Women's Health Program provides free clinical breast exams, mammograms, Pap tests and cardiovascular screenings for all women ages 40-64 who meet income and insurance guidelines. To find out if you qualify, contact the Jessie Norma Jim Medical Center or call the SEARHC Women's Health Program at 1-888-388-8782.
The mobile mammogram van program is sponsored by Bartlett Regional Hospital and SEARHC.
The next stop for the van is Kake, where mammograms will be offered on April 29-May 2. To schedule a mammogram call Loretta Gregory at the Kake Health Center at 785-3333.
