The Sitka Health Summit will take place from April 29-May 1 at Harrigan Centennial Hall. Sitka residents are invited to attend two community events - the Sitka Health Summit Community Dinner on Wednesday, April 29, and the Next Steps: Community Planning Session on Thursday, April 30.

Dr. Allen is the president of the Human Resources Institute, LLC, a research, publishing and consulting firm that focuses on the creation of supportive cultural environments. He teaches at Nebraska Methodist College and serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Health Promotion. The Sitka Community Health Dinner will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. A halibut dinner will be catered by the Alaskan Kitchen. Meal tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children/students, and tickets are available at Old Harbor Books, White's Pharmacy and the main office building for Sitka Tribe of Alaska. In addition to Dr. Allen's keynote presentation, community awards will be given to individual and group wellness champions and healthy role models from Sitka.

The Next Steps: Community Planning Session takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. This event is open to all interested Sitka community members. This is an opportunity for community members to help set Sitka's health goals for 2009-10 and develop an action plan for meeting those goals. Dr. Allen also will give a presentation about how culture change can help communities meet their health and wellness goals.

The Sitka Health Summit is presented by Sitka Community Hospital, the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC), the SEARHC Steps to a Healthier Southeast Alaska program, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska and Sitka Advancing Our Community. The Summit's stated vision is "to serve our great state as a model for community wellness by creating a healthy community where all Sitkans strive for and enjoy a high quality of life."
