African Library Project a success

JUNEAU - The African Library Project, sponsored by Hearthside Books and the Juneau Rotary Club, has reached their goal of 1,000 books.

The project will provide two libraries to two different locations in Africa.

The first library will be sent to Namikhate in Malawi. It will be a community library inside a primary school. The second library will be sent to Malkerns Valley Primary School in Malkerns, Swaziland. It will serve 318 students with 14 teachers.

The Juneau Rotary Club funded the shipping costs of the first library. If you would like to help, Hearthside Books is still looking for monetary donations to fund the shipping of the second library to Swaziland. Donations can be made at both Hearthside Books locations. Contact Hearthside Co-owner Susan Hickey at 789-2164 for additional information.
