FRESNO, Calif. - Department store chain Gottschalks Inc. has begun a court-ordered bankruptcy liquidation sale. The going-out-of-business sale includes all 58 Gottschalks locations, including the store in Juneau. The company was in business for 105 years.
Gottschalks' sale is being managed by a joint venture group of national retail liquidation firms. The sale will include store furnishings, trade fixtures and equipment. Upon completion of the sale, all stores will be closed.
Gottschalks filed in January to reorganize under Chapter 11 in the United States Bankruptcy Court but was unable to restructure its debt, leading to the liquidation announced last week.
