Women of Consequence: Laury Scandling
Laury Scandling taught history at the University of Alaska Southeast and in the Juneau School District for over ten years before stepping into the position as principal of Yakoosgé Daakahidi, the alternative school at JDHS.

Through her years as an educator, Scandling has continually shown a deep dedication and commitment not only to making education available to kids, but also to motivating students, teaching them while teaching them why learning is of the utmost importance.

Scandling has been promoting a varied education that exposes students to a wide variety of activities -Earts, sports, mentoring - and has advocated tirelessly for a caring school environment where each individual student is given the opportunity to succeed, find their dream, while getting a solid academic basic education.
