Women of Consequence: Beth Kerttula
Born in Guthrie, OK, Beth Kerttula probably has no childhood memory of living anywhere but Alaska, since she moved to Palmer the same year she was born.

After receiving a BA from Stanford and a Juris Doctorate from University of Santa Clara School of Law, Kerttula returned to Alaska and has served in a variety of positions, always having the good of the people of Southeast Alaska close to her heart.

Whether as public defender or president of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Juneau, Kerttula has always been approachable and had the air of being "one of us" - something that has made her popular among her Juneau constituents, who first elected her to represent them in the Alaska House of Representatives in 1998, and then again in 2000 and 2004.
