Juneau Symphony announces Youth Concerto competition
The Juneau Symphony's 2006 Youth Concerto Competition will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at the University of Southeast Alaska in Juneau. Rules and applications are now available from the Symphony office and online.

The postmark deadline for submitting applications is Monday, May 15. Contestants must reside in Southeast Alaska.

The Juneau Symphony's Youth Concerto Competition provides youth of Southeast Alaska with a forum in which to present their best musicianship.

Participants in junior and senior instrumental categories play concerto movements before an audience that includes judges.

The event is open to the public, so music students can observe and support friends who are competing.

The winners of the competition then play their winning concerto movements with the orchestra at one of its main-stage concerts or with the Juneau Student Symphonies.

The mission of the Juneau Symphony is to give local musicians a platform to perform and develop musically, to provide live symphonic music for the community, and to offer musical opportunities and support for youth.

For more information and an application, go online to or call the symphony office at 586-4676.
