Janet Henderson's first grade class joins John Wray, coordinator of Kid Safe Saturday, as he presents a $2,000 check to the school from Bartlett Regional Hospital. Mendenhall River Community School won the cash award for achieving the highest per capita participation at the 2007 Kid Safe event of all the local public elementary schools in the Juneau Borough, and in turn were awarded with a check for supplies and books.

Principal Patty Newman reported that Henderson's class had an imaginative way to remind students about the Feb. 17th event - each student wore band-aid with the words "Kid Safe" printed on it.
