PETERSBURG - The University of Alaska Southeast Fisheries Technology Program is offering a 1-credit special topics class for high school juniors and seniors, to be held in Petersburg, April 14- 16.
The class will include 1.5 hours of pre-lecture for students offered via the internet using live, interactive software called Elluminate, followed by three days of hands-on lab sessions in Petersburg. Students will be provided an overview of salmon culture techniques commonly used in Southeast Alaskan salmon enhancement facilities and have an opportunity to practice these techniques under the guidance of Assistant Professor of Fisheries Technology Jim Seeland. Seeland has over 25 years of salmon production experience in Southeast Alaska.
Some assistance may be available to eligible students through grant funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES).
