Award nominations needed for Sitka health summit
SITKA - The steering committee for the upcoming Sitka health summit, "Working Together for a Healthier Sitka," is accepting nominations for awards that will be given to Sitka health role models and wellness champions.

These awards are for individuals and groups that have made outstanding contributions to Sitka in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, safety/injury prevention, tobacco prevention/control, holistic health and general wellness. We hope to honor adults, youth, elders, policy makers, health care providers and Sitkans of all walks of life who have helped make our community a healthier place to live.

Nominations should include a brief description of why this individual or group deserves an award, and should provide us with contact information if it's available. They are for Sitka residents who have made outstanding contributions here in Sitka and they are a way we can recognize and thank Sitka's unsung heroes of community wellness. Nominations should be received by Doug Osborne by Wednesday, March 28. Nominations can be called into Doug at 966-8734, submitted by e-mail at, or mailed to Doug Osborne, SEARHC Community Health Services building, 222 Tongass Drive, Sitka, AK 99835.

The awards will be presented during the two-day Sitka health summit, which takes place April 26-27 at Harrigan Centennial Hall. The Sitka health summit, "Working Together for a Healthier Sitka," is co-sponsored by Sitka Community Hospital, the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium and the Steps to a Healthier SE Alaska program. More details on the summit will be released as we get closer to the dates, or you can e-mail Grace Brooks at for more information.
