On Jan. 12, 2007 a standing room only graduation ceremony was held for Violet E. Anderson, Alexis J. Olsen and Colleen M. Bernhardt for completing a Dental Health Aide/Dental Assistant Training Program sponsored by the Vocational Training & Resource Center and the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium. Chris

Hansen-Tatham, CDA, DHA II, instructor and Dr. Tom Bornstein, DDS, presented each of the graduates with their graduation certificates for this program.

This training program combines elements of classroom and hands-on dental assisting in a clinical setting at SEARHC under the direction and supervision of licensed Dentists. The focus of the training is on prevention, pain and infection relief, and basic restorative services through dental education, dental assisting and preventive dentistry services. This cooperative effort between the VTRC and SEARHC was intended to provide training locally with the intention of increasing dental services in rural and urban communities. All three of the graduates were hired by SEARHC upon graduation.
